During lunches last week and yesterday, the Good Sportsmanship League (GSL) sold Bearkat flip flops. The fundraiser is to help raise money for the pregame gifts they give out to opposing teams during football season.

“Before football games we go out to midfield and give the opposing team a little token,” senior Justin Kinne said. “We give them to the other cheerleaders, standleaders, or whoever they send out to midfield to meet us. This year we had a little bag of candy and a little teddy bear with a ribbon tied around them that had the school colors on them.”

The flip flops aren’t GSL’s first attempt at fundraising.

“We sold Spiritgrams one year,” GSL sponsor Jacqui Pluckhahn. “It was kind of like getting flowers at Valentines, except we did it during homecoming. But there’s so much that goes on that week and so much craziness that we stopped doing them. Now we’re selling flip flops to help fund our pregame gifts.”

Although the Spiritgrams didn’t sell well, GSL is hopeful of the flip flops. Students and faculty can stop by Mrs. Pluckhahn’s room 302 and order a pair for $20.

Juniors interested in being a part of GSL next year should attend the informational meeting  this Thursday, April 10th, in room 302 before school at 7:00am or after school at 2:45pm.

“It’s very competitive, but it’s also about going out and having fun,” said Kinne. “It’s good to know at the end of the day it’s all fun and games.”
