David Yates brings to life another one of J.K. Rowling’s riveting novels that takes place in the wizarding world. Fantastic Beast: The Crimes of Grindelwald brings back some iconic names and faces to continue in the story of Fantastic Beasts including Albus Dumbledore, Newt Scamander, and many more. This sequel in the Harry Potter spin off continues with stunning visuals and a captivating plot that keeps the watchers on the edge of their seats. The movie is fast paced and packed with information that adds to the ever-developing plot line.

Visually, the movie is executed almost perfectly with beautiful imagery and scenes of unbelievable creatures. Newt Scamander’s story continues after he is called on by Dumbledore to aid in the destruction of Grindelwald’s sinister plans. With lots of action, drama, and even some romance the movie has something to keep everyone engaged until the end credits.

Even though the movie collectively was intriguing, the plot had many holes and left some viewers confused. Invested Harry Potter fans and avid readers of J.K. Rowling clearly saw faults in the time line of the movie. For example, Dumbledore is shown teaching defense against the dark arts when it is clearly stated in the books that he taught Transfiguration before becoming headmaster. This was one of the many inconsistencies pointed out by viewers.

The soundtrack was composed by James Newton Howard, who’s worked on a long list of popular movies including Maleficent, The Dark Night, Hunger Games, and even The Sixth Sense. The music adds to the emotion of the movie including feelings of joy, excitement, and devastation during the inevitable roller coaster.

The cast list brings back friendly faces among Eddie Redmayne and Katherine Waterson and some not so friendly faces aka Johnny Depp. This star-studded cast helped build the hype leading up to the movie and it was well worth the wait. Now the wait for the next installment begins.
