Spider-Man, an overworked high school student, just wants to help his city. Batman, a solitary hero dedicated to protecting Gotham City at night. Superman, a character from out of this world. Each superhero has a very distinct personality like how each student is different.
In a survey of more than 200 responses, students took a quiz to determine which superhero they were most related to. Students were also asked if they feel that their superhero depicts their personality.
“Yes, I think so because Spider-Man is a loyal high school student who just wants to help out hiso community,” junior Jackson Rusie said.
The most popular superhero result was Spiderman, with 57 students. According to an article from The Comenian, Spider-Man’s values include morality, responsibility, and sacrifice. Even though he has those values, he also went through losses and hardships just as high school students do.
“I have been through a lot of the same stuff and I find him as a character to admire and learn from.” freshman Lillie Wooten said. “He has always been one of my favorites.”
Batman came in 2nd with 19 student responses. Batman has experienced a number of things in his life and has a hard time expressing his feelings, just as most students do.
“He depicts internal conflicts and has different personalities, I have different personalities depending on the audience as well. In some movies, he is also depicted as a more quiet character.” an anonymous sophomore said.
Just like Batman, 19 students scored Superman. Superman’s traits include justice and trust, according to Cliffnotes.com.
“I not only care for myself, but make sure that I treat everyone else with the amount of respect that I treat myself with,” junior Klyde Chi said.
Superman is known for his bold and outgoing personality, both while saving the world and on the day-to-day. Some students were surprised to find that their result was Superman being that they don’t consider themselves outgoing and bold.
“I was honestly surprised,” sophomore Veyda Lopez said. “I am more of a shy reserved individual and quite mysterious. Seeing my result as a very broad life saving figure who is known by all and extremely heroic made me question my choices.”
While most of the responses were about superheroes from comics and movies, a portion of responses was also dedicated to day-to-day superheroes. The people we pass in the halls, cook us breakfast or even take us to school.
“My mom is my superhero and because of watching her actions, I learned how to be brave, kind, helpful, hardworking, clever, optimistic, and supportive,” sophomore Gwendolyn Clark said. She taught me that it’s ok to be a little weird and I admire her for all the great things she has done to support me and my family.”
The survey shows how students relate to different superheroes, with Spiderman being the most popular answer due to his struggles and values. Connections between them show the importance of qualities like responsibility and resilience that help shape students throughout their lives.
