With the start of a new month, it is also the beginning of new seasons including this years wrestling season. The students involved in wrestling are taking many steps in order to make this season successful.

“Whether I win or lose I’m just going to go in and do my best and be okay with the results,”  senior Tianna McDaniel said.

Obviously, with a new season in this sport it deals with training and preparation to get better and take the team to the next level.

“Right now, I’m doing a lot of conditioning,” McDaniel said. “A lot of practice after school and running outside of practice.”

Not only do athletes have to get in a good mindset and focus on practicing, but they also have to balance their school work as well.

“When I get home after I do a couple of miles I just shower and get to studying,” senior Nicholas Moran said.

For this particular sport, a weight class falls among these athletes. This means that some might even need to start dieting or cutting back on certain things in order to maintain their weight or lose some.

“My diet is worse than others,” senior Xochitl Mota-Petis said. “I’m actually known around this schools wrestling team that I’m a bad eater.”

A brand-new start to another season can bring a different kind of feeling for the players on the team. For some that might bring excitement for what’s to come throughout the year and even the overall experience.

“[I’m most excited for] The end result because whether I win or lose its always a triumph feeling to know you did one of the school’s hardest sports,” McDaniel said.
