The Klein Independent School District announced the new calendar for the 2025-2026 school year. The calendar includes week-long breaks in Oct. and Feb. and a new start time at 7:10 a.m.
“I feel the breaks in the fall and the winter are great,” principal Shannon Strole said. “Students are able to rest and recover and so can the teachers. This helps with our attendance as trips can be planned during already planned vacation days.”
The 2025-2026 calendar is similar to the current school year with the inclusion of the fall and winter breaks in October and February.
“I feel that these breaks are very good to travel on as flights are off season and it is cheaper to travel,” junior Tanush Solai said. “Also, these breaks are a great time to unwind after the stressful quarter end, with the QSEs and the tests near the end.”
The district sent a survey allowing students, teachers, and their families to vote on the new calendar. Options A and B both included the tardy time as 7:15 a.m. Option B’s last day of school is May 21, option A is May 29, and option C is May 28.
“I would’ve rather had an option where the time doesn’t get pushed back and where we have a healthy amount of break not only for students, but also for our staff,” junior Diego Manrique said. “I’ve been used to waking up and having the same routine everyday, and now I’m going to have to change how I manage my times because school starts 5 minutes earlier.”
Next year’s calendar is similar to the 2024-2025 school year, with the main differences being the start time at 7:10 a.m. and 3 extra student holidays.
“I think Klein High will be fine with the new time adjustment of five minutes earlier,” Strole said. “We will dismiss earlier from the cafeteria so students can make it to class on time.”
