The Bearkats celebrated homecoming week Oct 6-11, right before the end of the quarter and the week-long fall break. The week was a celebration for current students, as well as the class of 1995, who was invited to celebrate the anniversary of the last time Klein High football went to state.

Each day of homecoming week, students got to dress up to show their school spirit. Monday was Meme Day, Tuesday: Dress like your favorite holiday, Wednesday: Decade Day (Y2K-Block), Thursday: Blue & Gold/Mum Day, and
Friday: Squad Day (group costumes).
“It makes it feel like it’s not school,” freshman Ava Jones said about the dress up days. “It gives me something to get excited about for school.”
On Thursday, the homecoming game day, underclassmen were decked out in blue and upperclassmen in gold. Students also got to wear their mums and garters, a special homecoming tradition in Texas. Freshman Brynleigh Wilson’s mum was stuffed with some of her favorite things, including pink goggles, her favorite Bible verse, and her initials.
“I wanted a mum because my parents, my dad was from here, my mom wasn’t from here, so she didn’t really know what mums were because it’s a Texas thing,” Wilson said. “But I remember seeing everyone post about their mum back when I was younger, and I was like ‘oh my God I want one so bad’.”
A senior parade was held for the first time Wednesday Oct 8. Seniors were invited to make floats or decorate cars to celebrate homecoming season with their class as they paraded down Lyons School Rd.
“One of the senior students came to us and said we’d love to do a type of homecoming parade, and how could we make that happen?” principal Shannon Strole said. “And I worked with my good friend, Mr. Duncan, and we organized it, because if that’s what the kids want to do and they’re going to participate, then we want to have it for them.”

Senior Isabella Johnson said that the parade was fun and getting candy was a win. However, she said that it could be improved next year.
“One little thing that could be improved, that it could have been planned a little bit in advance,” Johnson said. “It was kind of late, and not many clubs got to participate and get it, and most of them didn’t get a float.”
Strole said that this year’s senior parade served more as a practice for future homecoming parades.
“Next year, we’ll probably look at opening it up to like all of our clubs and organizations to have community present and just really feel the vibe of who we are,” Strole said. “We were just a little tight with our timeline {this year} because it was literally a week away.”
The Bearkats took the win in this year’s homecoming game with the score 52-17. Bearkats and alumni filled the stand with school spirit, wearing school colors blue and gold.
“We played great. We put on a show for the alumni and the fans, and we really showed all of our hard work paying off,” junior Kenneth James said. “I love my team and I love my coach and we love putting on a show as a team.”
The annual Homecoming Jamboree was held Friday, Oct 10. Everyone in A, B, and C lunches were invited to celebrate in the parking lot. The food that was served was Canes, Chick Fil A, Torchy’s Tacos, Fried Chicken Wings, and etc.
The Jamboree is very popular due to the amount of food options served during the yearly event.

“My favorite thing to eat is usually the Ice Cream or the Canes Chicken Tenders,” sophomore Kamila Varlik said.
There are a lot of activities to do such as pie-ing a club president, mini games like ball pong, doing exercise challenges for ROTC, or just hanging out with your friends during the event.
“My favorite activity is to sit down and talk to my friends after the Jamboree” senior Jessica Tran said.
The homecoming dance was Saturday Oct 11. Sophomore Lilly Mayer said she opted out of the formal dance to do “noco” with her friends.
“I think this year was a lot better because we got to control what we did and we had our own dance party that was a lot more hype than the dance,” Mayer said. “ All of it was really fun, but I liked getting food at Pappasito’s. At Pappasito’s the mariachi band played for us, just our table.”
