This year’s annual Mr. Topkat is February 23rd, 2017 and Associate Principal Mr. Hayes will be participating. He will be lip-syncing to a Kanye song because the yearbook staff has achieved their goal of selling over 200 yearbooks in a month.

I’m not really excited or nervous. Yearbook asked me if I would do it if they sold a certain amount of yearbooks, and I said yes I will do it,” Hayes said.

The contestants that are participating in Mr. Topkat are nominated senior boys and they have the choice of whether or not they want to participate.

“We’ve been practicing after school, back to back, ” said senior contestant, Isaiah Shepherd.

Some contestants thought of different methods to help them prepare for their performance.

“We film ourselves practicing and I watch them over and over again,” said senior Alejandro Villarreal.

This event is put on exclusively by selected seniors and most who are chosen are excited to be a part of it, but are also excited to see their peers perform.

“I’m excited to see some of the more quieter boys and see them come out of their shells,“ said Standleader, Madelyn Mattfeld.

The students participating are ready to show of their various talents. They have a chance to reveal their true character.

“I love to perform on the stage. I’ve always been a part of theatre and choir so this is just another chance for me to go out there and perform,“ said senior Rylan Hair.

Other students who are performing are looking forward to the unique opportunity.

“I am excited for Topkat because I don’t get the chance everyday to dance in front of everyone,” said senior John Craig.

The contestants are also getting their game face on and are ready to beat their biggest competitors.

“I would have to say Tanner Horrelica is my biggest competition because he has the best dance moves and he is my teammate, so we’re very competitive. I’m not nervous at all. I’m confident and that’s the mindset you need to have,” said Villarreal.

Students are excited for the performance on February 23rd. Anyone who would like to be entertained, tickets will be sold in the cafeteria starting on February 17, 2017. The performance will be one you won’t want to miss.

“I think its cool way for senior guys to go out there and do what they want. They have a lot of fun guys out there,” Hair said.
