After the announcement that Harvey had officially grown into a hurricane, south eastern Texas went into panic mode, emptying shelves across the community of all bread, water, and other non-perishables in preparation for the worst. Although the hurricane was considered to be only a category 1, it brought several inches of rain resulting in flooding throughout the city of Houston. Klein ISD stepped up in helping the community by opening several of their schools to the public as shelter, as well as providing transportation using their school buses for refugees. The official Klein ISD twitter was used to inform people of items and volunteers that were needed. They used hashtags #Klein5 and #KleinStrong on pictures of the aftermath of the storm of Klein ISD community members helping others. They later posted an update saying, “We love our Klein community. Your hearts are full of giving spirit. Volunteers maxed out right now.”
