Clubs are in full swing this month as first meetings introduce Bearkats to join for volunteering opportunities, fun, food, and events.
“We occasionally work directly with animals, however most of our work is behind the scenes,” Paws 4 Purpose officer senior Lorelei Molitoris said. “We clean up around shelters, host supply drives, and do other tasks that don’t see much face to face time with the animals. Oftentimes though, at the end of a volunteering event, the staff at the shelter will let us play with some of the animals.”
In addition to volunteering, Paws 4 Purpose also provides an opportunity to be around adorable animals.
“I think they’re really cute, they have so much personality, and they’re kinda similar to humans, but they’re not and it’s just soothing like a different experience,” Paws 4 Purpose officer senior Sydney Griffin said.
Klein High offers a variety of clubs of course, not just relating to animals. Clubs such as Asian American Club, AAC, dive deep into cultural backgrounds of students of Asian ethnicity, and Key Club offers general volunteer opportunities and volunteering for community service.
There are a lot of things to do in such clubs, such as trying food.
“I love the snacks like Hello Panda Cookies and Pocky sticks,” AAC officer senior Tanush Solai, said about his favorite food he’s tried in AAC.
Solai also said that AAC is also club where people of Asian ethnic backgrounds can meet and discuss their cultural practices.
“I feel like AAC brings like minded people and people from similar ethnic backgrounds together,” Solai said.
Key Club is the one of the largest and most popular clubs in Klein High. Its popularity is due to how centered they are around volunteering.
Key Club volunteers at a multitude of places. “Key Club volunteers at a lot of marathons, we help the elderly, a lot of festivals,” Key Club officer senior Thy Pham said. .
Volunteering for Key Club is also popular because of the service hours you can receive.
“{We get} to out reach basically, get more experience, get more hours, meet new people, do new things,” Key Club member senior Ammar Abbasi said explaining his goals.
