The 2026 All-State Choir includes junior Leyla Petrovic of Klein High Girl’s Choir.
“The way I prepared for All-State is that I kept constantly practicing and not losing motivation, even if I felt unmotivated, just remember my goal and keep going,” Petrovic said preparing for the auditions for All State.
Preparations for Choir All State in Texas require students to work very hard over a long course of time.
“Preparations for the Texas All-State Choir audition process begins as early as May the previous school year,” Klein Choir director Rebecca Berger said. “Students begin learning their music by going to an All-State camp over the summer, attending rehearsals once school starts, and seeking feedback from voice teachers and directors on vocal technique, stylistic choices, and sight-reading!” Berger said.
All State Choir takes a rigorous amount of time and dedication to invest in for students.
“It is months and months and months of dedicated practice and focus,” Berger said.
During the All state auditions, Petrovic qualified for All State.
“The auditions were very stressful and competitive, but I would also say supportive depending on the environment you had,” Petrovic said about the auditions themselves.
During the auditions itself, they are split into different parts.
“For choir, students prepare eight very different pieces of choral music in a variety of languages and styles,” Berger said. “At each round, they will sing portions of the music for a panel of judges who rank them according to vocal ability, accuracy, and musicality. They have to rank among the topmost singers to move on to the next round.”
This is also Petrovic’s first time ever making all state saying that
“This is my first year making All State ever.”
