The atmosphere of the first football game is always exciting and unmatched. No one knows what to expect and everyone’s spirit is high.

On Thursday, August 30 the Bearkats hosted the Cy-Creek Cougars at Klein Memorial Stadium. The fans were there cheering them the whole time.

“You could feel the electricity through the humidity,” senior Hunter Burton said.

The game was definitely one for the books. The Cougars were no push over, as they fought back the whole game.

“Honestly I really didn’t know what to expect, [because] we’ve never played Cy-Creek before,” Burton said.

The intensity of the game grew because it was really close. Fans are already talking about the next one.

“Of course, it’s my senior year and the season looks promising, [my favorite thing about football games is] seeing my friends hard work payoff,” Burton said.

After the game senior defensive back Aaron Black gave some player insight on their preparation for the week.

“Rain caused light practice in the gym so we were under prepared,” Black said.

At halftime the Bearkats were down, but they were not out. They came out looking like a different team in the second half, moving the ball with more efficiency.

“A captain stepped up and got us together,” Black said. “the first half we didn’t execute well, but the second half we came out firing on all cylinders.”

The Bearkats pulled out a narrow 28-27 victory over the Cougars, to move to 1-0 and get their first win of the season.

“We’ll make the playoffs for sure,” Black said.
